5 Minutes with
...
Darrin Day
Regional VP of
Sales (Midwest)
Darrin has been a key member of the Circle Graphics
family since 2005. He is one of the leaders on our National Sales Team
and has day-to-day responsibility for some of our biggest accounts in
the Midwest, including McDonald's, BlackBerry (RIM) and GM. We sat down
recently with Darrin and asked him some questions so you could get to
know him better.

How
long have you worked at Circle Graphics?
5 years
What
does Circle's sales and Customer Service philosophy mean to you, and
what "personal touches" do you bring to your clients?
Customer Service
means everything to me and is the foundation of our company.
Customer Service is a team concept and comes from everyone ... from the
Print Floor, Account Management to Upper Management.
I take personal
touches very seriously and my approach varies by customer. My
feeling is that a personal touch must be meaningful and sincere, or
don't do it. The element of surprise is very important as well
... like a birthday gift, if you know what you are getting, it's not as
much fun. Learning about client's interests is not easy and takes
time as you build the relationship. I do not want to come across
as nosy because I truly care. When the time comes, an appropriate
personal touch/thank you can be sent. I have roasted and sent
Coffee Beans, sent Corner Baker Coffee Cakes, and delivered fresh
vegetables from my parent's farm.
Describe
a typical day, if there is one, for a CG Regional VP of Sales?
There really
isn't a "typical day" as much as I wish there was. It keeps
life interesting.
Who
are some of the clients/accounts you work with?
I work with all
types of clients from Leo Burnett on McDonald's and BlackBerry, Outdoor
Media Group on Cricket Wireless, to customers like the Disabled Patriot
Fund. All my clients are very important to me, regardless of
size, and bring a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment to my life.
What's
the biggest project you've ever been a part of?
It was a Leo
Burnett McDonald's Campaign two years ago. We printed and shipped
30,000 30-sheets and 5,000 8-sheets. It was a job that I will
never forget. Due to the size and timing, the campaign's success
was a team effort by everyone at Circle Graphics and Leo Burnett.
What's
your favorite part of the job?
There are
several parts of my job that I consider my favorite.
When I get a
call from a client who is in need of help and/or information about a
specific Media Form or Strategy, whether we print it or not. The
fact that I have a relationship that they feel comfortable enough to
call is a GREAT feeling.
Developing New
Business/Relationships is also one of my favorites. Salespeople
spend a lot of time calling potential new customers, introducing
themselves, explaining capabilities, and asking for just one
opportunity to work together. It seems simple enough, but we get
kicked around, ignored, and said no to many times a day. So when
a new customer finally says yes and they will give you that one
opportunity, it is a GLORIOUS feeling.
What
do you do outside of work for fun?
I like spending
time with my family, friends and customers boating, camping, working
the Farmers Market, and working on Grandma and Grandpa's Farm (not
really working, but we sure do get dirty).
Can
you share something-trivia, an anecdote, etc.-with us that your
customers might find interesting?
Every Saturday
morning we (Dace, Logan and Dylan) go and help my parents at the
Farmers Market selling fresh produce.
