What is
your title?
Sr. Color Tech. &
Agency Support/Special Forces
How long have you worked
at Circle Graphics?
Approximately
9 Years.
Describe a typical
day, if there is one, for a Prepress Tech such as yourself?
I feel fortunate to have a position at Circle that necessitates wearing several
hats to help our clients as well as work on different projects for people/departments
within our company. On any given day I may be asked to design CG promotional pieces
that help our salespeople get the attention of prospective clients, spend time face-to-face
with a client viewing, discussing and manipulating their digital files to get the
most accurate prints across all substrates, create the look for our booth at the
next trade show, receive and expedite the latest Wendy's campaign for print,
fulfill requests for any odd-sized boards that need to be assembled on our end,
create internal signage, or join my fellow prepress techs in processing and getting
the regular flow of art to the print floor.
What's the biggest
project you've ever been a part of?
The McDonald's campaign
in the Spring is typically our largest campaign with posters shipping to virtually
every billboard company in the US. From a technical aspect, Disney's amazing
new movie release campaigns can be a huge digital undertaking. For Disney,
we can have up to half a dozen techs working at a feverish pace to get very complex
digital files exported, color-corrected and out to print with extremely short deadlines.
What does
Circle's philosophy mean to you, and what do you bring to your position to ensure
CG remains the industry leader in this area?
I've always viewed Circle
Graphics as a customer-centric, leading innovator in large-format digital printing.
We came out of the gates a decade ago with better ideas on how things could be printed
and have tirelessly continued evolving ever since. Those who know our turnaround
time and have taken a tour of the plant are blown away by what CG can do. My
part in this has been to deliver fast, reliable solutions to all the art-related
requests thrown at me during my tenure at Circle. Being a part of Circle since its
first year has given me a large library of experiences and thus the ability to comfortably
handle many of the vast and ever-growing departmental obligations. However, I thrive
on assignments that can't be systematically solved and require some out-of-the-
box, creative effort. It's gratifying when people come to me for assistance
because they know I will give them a product or solution they can't necessarily
get just anywhere.
What's your favorite
part of the job?
Taking the ordinary and
making it extraordinary. The main thrust of what CG does every day is get
client files quickly to print, but those times when it requires a little more TLC
or creativity are like a hall pass from class. There's an art director in
a lot of us in the prepress department and I think we all look forward to those
rare
occasions when the coach
puts us in to create something from scratch.
What do you do outside
of work for fun?
I've played racket sports
all my life. Tennis paid for my education and I still enjoy teaching during
the warm months. Colorado has so many opportunities for fun in every season.
On any given weekend you might find me hiking, snowboarding, dancing at the
summer music festivals, sharing cheese and wine at an outdoor cinema, at a Rockies
game, playing pool, in a pool, getting peaches at the farmer's market, taking a
dance lesson, etc. etc. Where you won't find me is in a rut.
