Digital Snipes/Imprints for 30 Sheet or 8 Sheet Posters

Background Information on Snipes

Digital printing has made great strides in eliminating the need to "snipe" boards with custom information by allowing you to print what you need when you need it at an affordable price.

Nevertheless, we recognize that there will be occasions when you will need to snipe a poster. In those instances we ask that you let us know the exact size of the snipe or tell us explicitly that you need us to help you determine the snipe size. It is very helpful for us to have the order number of the board we are sniping.

Once you provide us the order id (or help us locate in our prior order database), we will be able to pull the original order's artwork and use it to match for sizing and color. Please keep in mind that we will match the previous color as closely as possible but that there may be slight variances in color. You should find these variances small and within acceptable industry standards.

Art Requirements

  • Our preferred file format is a flattened Photoshop .tif file using LZW compression. Please always name files of this type using the 3 character extension ".tif" at the end of your file name (even if you are on a Mac).
  • If you build your file using the recommended format there will be no need to use additional compression software such as WinZip or Stuffit when uploading your files. Also, when naming your file please name the file something specific to the advertiser and design or name it with your job number to help us match your artwork to your job.
  • Circle Graphics supports the latest versions of all the software listed below for both Macintosh and Windows:
    • Major drawing applications (i.e., Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Macromedia Freehand).
    • Major page layout applications (i.e., QuarkXPress, Adobe Pagemaker and Adobe Indesign).
NOTE: we do not accept files built in MS Word or Powerpoint or any other word processing or publishing program for that matter.
NOTE: When using these software packages to create files please follow the same basic information herein, but keep in mind that you will need to compress the files into one archive using Stuffit for Macintosh users and WinZip for Windows users. This helps maintain the file's integrity and prevents fonts from getting corrupted during upload.
  • Please provide a file that has only the information you want on the snipe built to scale that is proportional to the output you want to receive. It is also helpful if you can provide a jpg proof that shows the snipe on the board so that we have it for placement reference.

Production Standards

The largest snipe we can print without paneling is 4'6" x 20'. Snipes larger than this size will be paneled. If we do panel your snipe we will add square registration marks in the corners of each panel to allow for easy alignment.

To figure your snipe size:

  • First you need to determine the scale in which the original artwork was created. Two very common scales:
    • 1" to 1' Scale: Select the portion of the board you wish to snipe. For example, 1" would equal 1'.
    • 1/4 to 1 Scale. Select the portion of the board you wish to snipe. For example, 1" would equal 1'.
  • Alternatively, please feel free to send us an entire file with just the section you wish sniped indicated. Tell us what size (i.e., 30 Sheet or 8 Sheet) and we'll take it from there.

Product Labeling/Packaging

Circle produces snipes in rectangles (or squares) and is not able to trim snipes in shapes. All snipes are folded for shipment.

On each box there are three labels as set forth below:

  • Shipping label: details of the shipment provided by our shipping company.
  • Packing slip: indicating the job number, the product type and quantity ordered and the quantity contained in the box.
  • Picture label: a label with a black and white image of the board contained inside.
